President Donald Trump is predicted to announce a $100 billion funding from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing to bolster chip manufacturing over the following 4 years within the U.S, NBC has discovered.
The Wall Avenue Journal first reported the news.
TSMC, which provides semiconductors to the likes of Nvidia and Apple for synthetic intelligence use, would assist help the Trump administration’s efforts to make the U.S. a synthetic intelligence hub. Final month, Trump introduced a multibillion-dollar AI infrastructure project with Oracle, OpenAI and Softbank.
Trump has repeatedly referred to as out and accused Taiwan of stealing the U.S. chip manufacturing enterprise and touted tariffs on semiconductor imports. TSMC has already made strides to broaden its footprint within the U.S, committing $12 billion in 2020 to construct its first U.S. chip manufacturing facility in Arizona. It has since raised its funding within the state to about $65 billion with a 3rd manufacturing facility and gained U.S. authorities help by a $6.6 billion subsidy from the U.S. Commerce Division.
